* Prometheus represents on who has defied and challenged the natural order; one who has transgressed on forbidden territory. His actions are not couched in connotations of courage or heroism but recognised as reckless and without any thought to the possible consequences. * Victor earns disregard and disdain through his insufferable egotism and unprincipled and reckless judgement. Time and time again, he fails to take responsibility for his own actions, ushering in destruction as a consequence of personal inadequacy. The advances have been made to the detriment of the natural and human environments. * Science and technology have created much but also taken away from the quality of the individual’s existence. None of the real problems (e.g. pollution) have been dealt with. * New technology is mingled with some older technology such as the fans that seem omnipresent in the film. This blend allows us to see how technology has focussed on the profitable. * Tyrell doesn’t seem to have any emotions and is a logical, rational being. He can see no other reason for their existence than the glory that he gets from their creation. He can’t empathise with their plight and the people that create them such as Chew and Sebastian are isolated and lonely, much like Tyrell. While science and technology dominate Blade Runner, it comes at a price for humanity. * Chew’s Laboratory: Roy shows his resourcefulness by locating Chew, a genetic designer that did some work for the Tyrell Corporation. When they meet Chew in his lab, they immediately set an aggressive tone and Roy begins by paraphrasing a poem by William Blake:
