Discuss the poem's use of the theme (Innocence and Experience). What is the meaning that we construct from the poem? What is the insight about life that we can derive from it?
The meaning that we construct from the poem “Richard Cory” is that what we always see is not always true. We are too gullible to understand what one might be going through until we experience their demise. Everyone in the poem admires Richard, yet they failed to notice his miseries. The insight about life that we can derive from this poem is that appearances are not always what they seem, and that money does not always make a person happy. Richard Cory is the symbol of upper class, but he was probably lonely and sad man who at the end killed himself.
