My name is Kemberly Flores. That’s right , my name is spelled different then other Kimberly’s. I still don’t know why my parents spelled my name like this. Maybe they didn’t even know how to spell it in the first place, but whatever I cant change it now. So I am just going to have to stick with it for the rest of my life. Well ignoring that, I was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 18,2000. Yeah , I’m pretty sure you’re wondering why in the world would she move from Georgia to here, California. Well I moved here because over there in Georgia there is a lot of bad influence. I don’t want to get to detail, but it was a very bad place to live in, and it still is. I really like it here though. It is a very great place. It doesn’t have that great or amazing influence, but better than the one over there. We moved to California in the year 2010. So that’s means that I’ve been living here for more than 4 years. Pretty good time. Well enough of background - living . I am going to tell you more about myself. My favorite colors are purple, blue, and I have to say pink. My favorite football team are the COWBOYS!! They’re the best in my opinion. My favorite basketball are the Miami Heats!! And my favorite player is LeBron James #6. I really like how he plays and the way that he blocks. My favorite food is Chinese food. I love it!! My favorite place to eat it is Sakura Buffet and Panda Express. I love to get the sweet shrimp. After talking about that, I want to tell you about my academic life. I am currently in the 7th grade. I am suppose to be in 8th but , I went to school late. I don’t really like this year in school because it is getting more difficult than it was before. My favorite subject is Language Arts. My least favorite subject is Math. I don’t like math at all because it is hard and confusing to me. I believe that language arts is my strongest subject since I try hard in it. And math is my weakest subject. I think that my second favorite subject might be science. I’m not that sure though. And it doesn’t really matter to me right now. I am in AVID. A program that helps me be organized and prepared for my academic goals. Such as go to college and/or university. I really like the program I am in because it helps me in many ways. It helps me in collaboration, by the fact that I am able to work and participate in a group and/or as a class. It also helps me being more Confident. Confident because I am able to get up and give a speech or a presentation in front of a group people and not have fear or be very nervous. I also am organized. Sure I was pretty organized before, but not like I am now. I am very organized and prepared for the day’s work. My dream or goal in life is to graduate high school after being in Avid for all 7 years. And to head off to one of my three top choices of universities. UCSB, UCLA, or USC. I want to get my masters degree in Education. I want to be a teacher . I want to teach Language arts in middle school.

In Time and Tide by Tim Winton, and Martin and the Hand Grenade by John Foulcher, a range of complex ideas and techniques are used to create an atmosphere of inner conflict, and physical conflicts that can arise as a result. Winton looks at the conflicts of wasteful human use of the ocean to further their own economic wants and needs, and in extension the effect that this has on him. Foulcher explores the effect that conflict within a classroom can have on the students involved, and in the composer himself. While both are set in different times and places, both composers similarly conclude that the effects of human beings on their surrounding can lead to change and growth, in both the texts and the responders.…

“We drank when we were young and we grew out of it. It’s just a phase that all students go through.” I can agree to an extent but doing so can also get the person or another innocent person killed. In the 2013 article University Star, author Alexis Acguirre wrote the article “National Drinking Age should be lowered to 18”. The title itself sounds terrifying and unfavorable. I feel as if the author has a careless attitude about this topic and a little selfish due to his comments. Aguirre stresses and keeps restating the fact that people 18 years and older are considered adults and should be treated as such by being allowed to legally purchase and consume alcohol. Aguirre must feel as if there’s not enough dreadful things that underage kids do in this world and feels that his way of handling this situation would be to lower the drinking age. Aguirre states that as soon as a person turns 18 they are considered an adult legally so therefore they should be treated as an adult and should be allowed to consume alcohol. Aguirre also states that an 18 year old legal U.S. citizen can do such things as ink up their body, join the military, vote, and fill their lungs up with smoke and a few other things an 18 legal adult can take action in. She believes that as young adults they can partake in making their own decisions about alcohol. She argues that lowering the drinking age could make it easier to regulate consumption among younger adults as well as encourage healthy drinking habits. If the legal drinking age is lowered, people between the ages of 18 and 20 would be able to drink in safer, more controlled environments. Aquirre is influenced in such a way that lowering the drinking age is the right thing to do because she is convinced that young kids drink anyways so let’s give in to them anyways and make things worse.…

Contrasting to this notion; the playwright “Shoe-horn Sonata” to expose the brutal reality of POW camps during WWII. Belonging can be defined in many ways as there is no exact meaning, though belonging can be defined as a sense of enlightenment felt when an individual gains an understanding of themselves in relation to others and the world around them. The feeling of belonging does depend on a strong relationship between people that has been developed over a period of time either short or long. In the film ‘strictly ballroom’ the director Baz Luhrmann clearly shows how the protagonist’s develop a sense of acceptance towards each other as the film progresses and this allows their relationship to strengthen over time. Also in the poem ‘wind and window flower’ written by Robert Frost the theme of relationships and depicts the idea of unrequited love.…

This quote means that you have many moments in life that are simply just to take up time and carry one throughout the years but memories are much more important and stay in one’s head forever with no time limit. This quote is significant to the two novels Rush Home Road and Kite Runner because each protagonist has a past that they carry with them throughout their years. Their memories of tragedy are with them forever and there is no way of escaping them permanently. In the novels Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens and Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the protagonists, Addy and Amir, are constantly drawn back home by recalling difficult memories, through adoption, and with the idea that they have a mission to complete.…

A hero is a man noted for his special achievements according to the dictionary, but if you ask most people what a hero is, you will get the same general response. They will probably say someone who does something for other people out of the goodness of his heart. Odysseus, who is the main character of the story, "The Odyssey" told by Homer, would fit the dictionary's definition of a hero; but if you go deeper, looking at what people feel a hero is, he doesn't even come close. In the book, Odysseus does nothing out of the goodness of his heart. Even if Odysseus fought in the Trojan War, he is not a hero because he is self-centered and ignorant to other peoples' values and needs.…

“To David, About his Education” by Howard Nemerov, explains that education isn’t always as important as you think. Nemerov supports the fact that outside knowledge and experience are far greater amenities then education alone. Nemerov advocates his theme by using literary devices such as verbal irony and tone. Nemerov mocks the way children are traditionally taught by using the devices for sarcasm to balance the pretend seriousness he conveys in the poem. For example Nemerov states, “The world is full of mostly invisible things… to find them out, things like how many times Byron goes into Texas… you have to go to school and study books.”…
