Essay Informal & Formal English
Unit 2: THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
ESSAY: INFORMAL/FORMAL ENGLISH
Here is your goal for this assignment: * Produce writing that illustrates your understanding of formal and informal English

You will be writing two separate paragraphs. The first paragraph, on any subject of your choice, will be written in informal English. Informal English is conversational in tone. There should be no grammatical or spelling errors in this paragraph, so be sure to proofread your work carefully.
The second paragraph will be on the identical subject as the first essay, but use formal English instead. This paragraph will express the same concepts as the first, but the writing style should be smooth and highly polished. Again, proofread carefully anything you write.

INFORMAL ENGLISH
About a month ago I was fired from my job. It was a terrible experience for me. I thought for a moment I was done but I had a funny feeling about what was happening and I thought to myself this could be an opportunity. I have always been a fan of cooking. I used to take cooking lessons when I was a child. I really believed I could make my dream come true and start my own business. I could open a restaurant anyplace I liked. So I dove into the task and tried and do my best. I borrowed the money off of my brother and I started to build my cuisine empire. I found an old house and fixed it to look like a restaurant. I swapped some old furniture for cooking equipment and finally I bought some groceries and started cooking. After a couple of weeks I had stood up for myself and made it in the business.

I spent the end of May and beginning of June applying for any activity job or volunteer opportunity that held my interest. I spent hours preparing for interviews, writing lengthy letters and internally panicking at every ring of the phone. in June I started my first job at the Hebron Carnival, and I could not have been more excited. I promised myself that I would work my hardest to make the carnival a better place than when I arrived. I also was accepted by the volunteer program at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and began work there every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that was the most educational job I have ever had the pleasure of working at.Also in June I applied to work at Azar Eye Institute and received a position there. I worked there Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 5:30. even after balancing my workload I was informed that I got a job volunteering at the library; which I did Monday and Thursday afternoons, and I also got a job working with children and animals at the Pemberton nature camp. Five jobs for a 15-year-old without a license sounds overwhelming, and it was. However, I loved every minute of it. I liked being part of the team, I liked being relied on by my fellow staff members, and most of all I liked having a…

These two job scenarios were a rude awakening and I realized that we should not always get to comfortable at a job or jump so quickly into a new one. Shortly after being jobless for the second time around in the same year I had low spirits, nothing going for myself, I just simply didn’t want to do anything. I lost myself. One day I met up with one of close friends and wow did she ever lecture me, but the words that gave me comfort were “Everything will turn out all right”. These small, simple words turn things around for me. I’ve always heard people say it but never put too much thought into…

When I finally got to my food the look on the lunch lady’s face as I grabbed my food was magnificent they looked so like they loved their job. For my choice of food, I picked cheesy breadstick with a packet of marinara sauce, romaine salad w/ dressing, hash brown stick, a pear, and a low -fat chocolate milk. As I walked back to my table students greeted me and shook my hand and a few came to sit with me. Before I dipped my bread stick into the little cup of marinara sauce I looked at it.The cheesy, baked flavorful and fluffy bread stick looked as if it was caramelized with butter. I broke the bread stick open to look at the cheese. The cheese looked so creamy and delicious I could not help myself I took a bit and the cheese melted in my mouth the bread was doughy but cooked enough to be just right. Next I took a bite into the pear. It was so juicy the citrus was so superior it was magnificent.…
