If there weren’t a massive feud between the Capulets and Montagues, Friar Lawrence would not have had to help devise a plan to hide Romeo + Juliet’s love. In their isolation Romeo and Juliet turn to Friar Lawrence who can offer neutral advice, such as creating a poison that will put Juliet to sleep for four days. This plan ends horribly, killing both Romeo and Juliet. “ O here will I set my everlasting rest, and shake the yoke of inauspicious stars from this world-wearied flesh. Eyes look your last; arms take your last embrace. And lips o you the doors of breath seal with a righteous kiss”. (Act 5 Scene 3) These were Romeo’s last ever words to Juliet before they were reunited in death. The final shot in this scene symbolizes love through the camera slowly zooming out on the lovers.
Throughout the film Romeo + Juliet, it is clearly evident that love is a key theme. This is represented through the characters Romeo, Juliet and Friar Lawrence.
