The birth order theory is the theory that states that the order you are born in can have an impact on your personality and who you are. The amount of attention a child gets, how strict their parents are, and the personality and physicality of their other siblings all go into determining who the child will be and how they will act. Intensive research has been performed to determine if birth order really does matter, and most research and opinions support the claim that it does play a big role in determining who you become. For every birth order there are different expected personality traits that help scientists determine if the theory is correct. The first born is said to be the “leader” of the siblings. They are “natural leaders, ambitious, and responsible” (RealSimple.com). They tend to act as mini-parents to their younger siblings because they follow their parents’ example. They like taking charge and having control, not only in situations with siblings, but with peers, coworkers, and anyone else who they have to work on a project or complete a group task with. They usually feel misunderstood, and they may fake dependance or helplessness for attention. A middle child might ask for help with something that they can do themselves, or say that they can’t do something just to get attention.
