malnutrition and mistreated or misdiagnosed illness. The Khmer Rouge’s policies wanted to create a society without competition in which people worked for the common good. Although this genocide was terrible and affected many generations, there are some ways we can prevent this genocide and many more from destroying further generations. First off, we can make peace with all countries and not treat others diffrently. Second, we can communicate what we want other than ruining people's lives to get what we want.
Last, we could work together by bringing all of our nations together. Doing this, we wouldn't dilike each other as much as Khmer Rouge disliked Cambodia. The people involved in the Cambodian Genocide were the Cambodians Citizens, The Khmer Rouge, Vietnam, and The United States. The Cambodian Citizens played a role in this genocide by having been forced to leave their homes and moved to rural centers. Once in these rural areas, Cambodians were forced into labor camps where each individual was given a small food ration each day but, it was barely enough to maintain physical and/or mental strength. The Khmer Rouge was involved by being the main political and ideological organization in power during the Cambodian Genocide. Vietnam played a part in the genocide by having its own civil war conflicts that prompted its presence in nearby Cambodia. Its apperence allowed the United States to be in Cambodia, as well. Later on in the genocide, while Vietnam and Cambodia begin their own war, communist Vietnam eventually takes over Cambodia, overthrowing the Khmer Rouge. Lastly, the United States plays a part in the genocide by trying to have Cambogia get rid of Viet-Cong guerilla groups. The United States military killed
thousands of Cambodian citizens, mostly during air raids. Furthermore, the United States continued to provide support for the Khmer Rouge while its conflicts with Vietnam continued. As you can see, these four parties played some pretty big parts in the genocide. The perpetrators of the Cambodian genocide were the Khmer Rouge. This was the group that was responsible for this horrific genocide. The Khmer Rouge’s main plan was to create a society without competition in which people worked for the common good. They did this because their policies were guided by its belief that the citizens of Cambodia had been tainted by exposure to outside ideas, especially by the capitalist West. The Khmer Rouge persecuted the educated including doctors, lawyers, and current or former military and police. Christian, Buddhist and Muslim citizens also were specifically targeted. The victims of the genocide were the 2 million Cambodian citizens that lost their lives during the genocide. Other victims included further generations from years after the genocide. Such as the survivors who suffered horribly during the 1975-1979 period, both directly and from seeing their relatives, friends, and neighbors dying before their eyes or taken away to be killed. The new generations in Cambodia can be considered victims. The bystanders of this genocide include the people that saw the genocide occurring but did nothing to help or stop it. The consequences of this genocide include tons of deaths and injuries, trials, and low number of mental health workers. This genocide affected and devastated Cambodia’s population by having the population decreased. 21% of the country's population lost their lives. All around the world people were infuriated and affected by the genocide. For example, A few people in Congress demanded that the US examined what was happening in Cambodia. Also, Foreign journalists who were in Phnom Penh when the Khmer Rouge captured the city wrote harrowing accounts of the atrocities or crimes they witnessed. The aftermath of the Cambodian Genocide affected everyone. For example, the international community and the Cambodian government argued for decades about how to set up a fair accountability process for bringing the perpetrators of this horrific crime to justice. A solution to help heal the aftermath is by getting the terrible people that did the crimes in jail. Doing this would help prevent further genocides as well. The Cambodian people finally got justice when the killers were killed or put away. Although, there is still no way to get Cambodia back to how it was, the Cambodian people can still put all of the kilers to the torture that they were faced with. As you can tell, the Cambodian Genocide was a long and deadly genocide that affected many people. Tons of people died affecting the population of Cambodia. This modern genocide is very important to know about because it plays a role in our daily lives now here and in Cambodia. We should always try our hardest to be kind to everyone to prevent genocides from happening in the future.
