Every child should achieve wealth and economic well-being. Means that children experiencing poverty should have same opportunities ad their peers.
Clear link between poverty and employment.
Children more likely to live in poverty if:
• Children in care.
• One or both parents unemployed
• Parent is a teenage or lone parent.
• Parents are disabled, have mental health or addiction problems.
• Parents are from an ethnic or minority group.
• They have a disability.
Family income influences the type of area a child is brought up, the level of housing, quality of food, access to leisure facilities, outings and holidays.
Following factors can affect children’s chances to achieve economic well-being:

Social deprivation – may hinder children’s chances to make friends or join in social activities.
Educational deprivation – children may have limited opportunities at school, through lack of money to pay for books/school trips, social activities or uniform.

Children need to share in determining their future.
Should be given a voice to make choices and contribute their experiences.
Rights of a Child (UNCRC) introduced in 1989.
Article 13 relates to the importance of children making choices.
The ECM framework ensures that policies and services are designed around children’s needs.
In early years children given personal choices in their environment.
EYFS states that a curriculum for under 5’s should be a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.
Children should be involved in observations.
Develop children’s communication skills.
Support children’s rights.
Ensure legal responsibilities are upheld.
Improve services by taking children and young people’s views into account.
Make children and young people feel valued and respected by involving them in decision making.
Promote children’s protection by ensuring their concerns are listened
