Coral reef and Desert ecosystem. The coral reef and desert ecosystem can be very similar or very different. The difference between the biotic and abiotic factors in the coral reef and the desert the ones in the coral reef live under water ,and in the desert none of them live under water only some of the fish do. Some of the biotic animals in the coral reef are dolphins and seals. bivalves, gastropods, tunicates, sponges, polychaete and feather duster worms, some corals, sea urchins, some crabs, green sea turtles, and herbivorous fish.Large reef fish, sharks, eels and barracudas. Some of the biotic animals in the desert are the gerbil, jerboa, Cape hare, desert hedgehog, barbary sheep, dorcas gazelle, sand fox, common jackal, spotted hyena, and the slender mongoose. Some of the biotic plants in the desert are the cypress, olive, and mastic trees aacia, artemisia, doum palm, oleander, date palm, and thyme trees. The coral reef is part of an ocean biome which is a big group of very similar ecosystems. …show more content…
The desert is part of the Desert biome. The desert ecosystem generally gets between 8 to 10 inches of rain each generation. Where on the other hand the coral reef ecosystem has a infinity amount of water for all of the organisms living in there, this is a difference between the coral reef ecosystem and the desert ecosystem. A similarity between the coral reef ecosystem and the desert ecosystem is that they both rely on oxygen. Another difference is some of the different adaptations the ecosystems have.In the desert some of the adaptations are ;animals are venomous so they dont have to chase their prey ,most animals are thick and padded so they can sit up on top of the cactus and see further, the jerboa doesn’t have to drink water, and the unique sideways movement of the sidewinder helps it to traverse the sands quickly and effectively. However in the coral reef some of the adaptations are due to the structure of coral reefs, with their many nooks, crannies, and hiding spots, fish have adapted a body structure to easily go through the coral.,In open water fish have adapted bodies to swim faster, but within the coral reefs fish have adapted bodies that are flat and maneuverable, and due to the wide variety of prey found in coral reefs, the fish have developed a made feeding structure to take advantage of the biodiversity. Another Difference is the symbiotic relation ships they share is in the desert they have;Mutualism an example is bees pollenating the cacti and depending on it for food. Parasitism an example is fleas living on the bodies of coyotes and other animals. Commensalism an example is the fringe-toed lizard or gopher snake looking upon a burrow. However in the coral reef the symbiotic relationship is different. They have commensalism for example, a remora which attaches to a shark and feeds on the remains of the shark’s meal Mutualism for example clownfish and sea anemones; cleaner fish and giant groper fish. Parasitism For example QX diseases and oysters. Predation for example, the Crown of Thorns starfish eating coral polyps. Competition for example sponges competing for space with corals made by the desert rat. The coral reef and desert ecosystem have very different climates.
The coral reef normally has temperatures between 73 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The desert ecosystems temperatures range between 24.95 and 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. These average temperatures are very different in many ways. Like the desert ecosystems lowest average is 24.95 degrees Fahrenheit and the coral reef ecosystems lowest average is 73 degrees Fahrenheit. Similarities in climate A similarity in climate is that they both have a pretty stable average throughout the day. These are all similarities and differences of the coral reef ecosystem. However both the desert and the coral reef have a lot of differences and similarities they are both two different ecosystems and biomes. They will never be considered as on they the main difference is one is hot and one is kinda cool the main similarity is they both have living plants and animals on
them.
