When I was growing up, every christmas I would go to my Grandmother’s house, and have a christmas dinner with my Dad’s side of the family. Because my Grandmother was the first generation in America, she brought lots of british recipes with her. I remember going to her house and eating lamb, yorkshire pudding, and a host of other foods. These experiences helped me relate more to the british culture, and showed me many foods I still love today. Another holiday dinner that also a tradition in my family is thanksgiving dinner with my mom. Although her side of the family is nordic, a lot of the recipes we eat are american dishes. My Aunt typically brings scalloped potatoes and sugar cookies for dessert, my Mom cooks turkey and makes preparations for the dinner, and other dinner guests for the most part bring dessert items. traditions in my family have given me something to feel a part of.
My friends and family are the biggest part of my life, and have had the most influence on me as a person. Since I was a small child, I’ve always had a sibling rivalry with my Brother. He would often try to beat me up, and I would steal the food he makes in response. This rivalry is what I think gives me a competitive nature, especially in tabletop and video games. My friends have also helped me develop as a person. From my interactions with my friends, I think I have become less ignorant and bigoted, and learned tons about the world and its inhabitants. They have also exposed me to many new thing I wouldn’t have been exposed to otherwise such as Tumblr, and some of my favorite restaurants. Through these interactions I have become who I am today.
The music I listen to influences my life in numerous ways.
It has served as the basis of multiple friendships and provides me with something to do in my free time. Some of the music I listen to, such as the band Twenty One Pilots, has even helped me get through dark times in my life. The lyrics of many of the artists I listen to are quite impactful, and have even changed how I view essential concepts such as life. Through playing music, I have met many of my closest friends, and it has given me a different perspective on music as a whole. It has also introduced me to songs and composers that I would’ve never heard of without lessons or playing in ensembles. Music has changed my life for the positive immensely, and is a big part of who I am as a
person.
My cultural identity is influenced by many things, and plays a big part in who I am as a person. Through my interactions with others, I have grown intellectually and socially. The cultures I’m a part of have shaped me and the people around me.
