Culture is important because it is passed down to children by parents and members of society. One generation to the next passes down teachings to children in each culture. Infants are born with basic mental functions that are enhanced by the influence of their parents and their culture. Cognition is affected by the values and beliefs that are influenced by a particular area. Interactions between parents and children are vital for infant’s cognitive development. Puberty is universal across the world, however social milestones such as beginning school varies between cultures. Physical appearances, such as race and racial stereotypes can have great impacts on a child’s development.
