Hello and welcome to your first semester at Wichita Area Technical College. College has been just like working on a car. You may not want to work on it, but as time goes by you realize that you need your car. I want you to imagine you working on a car. You have the parts that you think you need and then you realize something else is broken you then go and get a new part for your car. Now think of the Delayed gratification you receive when the car is finally fixed College is the same way because you may not want to do the homework, but as time goes on You will realize it is important. You may need your grades to come up and then you will start to do the work. When you take a test you will be able to do well because you studied. Delayed gratification takes grit, time management, and a growth mindset. Keep your eye on the diploma at the end of the course. The first aspect of delayed gratification would be grit. What grit means to some people would be showing up to class on time. To others, it would be willing to learn from their mistakes, solving problems on their own, as well as being organized and managing stress. A growth mindset would be willing to learn from your mistakes. Mistakes are a part of life you have a choice to either learn from them or just ignore them. A positive mindset is a part of a growth mindset. Someone with a positive outlook says,” I am going to knock down every barrier that gets in my way.” That is the outlook an instructor is looking for. Ask for help when you don’t understand something. While Someone with a negative mindset says “they are not going to pass this class and may they end up failing the class.” Don’t have a bad attitude because that may make the instructor think you don’t want to
