Walker believes that the cause of his D.I.D. was because he was bullied as a child in elementary school. While there is no proven cause of Dissociative Identity Disorder, the main theory is thought that D.I.D is the result of childhood trauma (Roxanne, 2012). Many believe that severely traumatized children respond by dissociating themselves (Roxanne, 2012). Dissociative Identity Disorder’s numeric code is…

Multiple Personality Disorder is also called Dissociative Identity Disorder. According to Psychology Today, “Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states, are present in—and alternately take control of—an individual. The person also experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness” (Psychology Today, 2008). Dissociative Identity Disorder is caused by a traumatic injury, mentally or physical, that happened during childhood.…

Schizophrenia, though more common than DID, has harsher effects short term. With schizophrenia a person frequents hallucinations of voices, jumbled sentences and thoughts, muscle spasms, and inappropriate emotions or actions. DID has symptoms, well more like actions, of multiple personalities. Within DID, the person takes on multiple personalities, talking different, acting different: basically an entirely new person, sometimes even with their own new name. The odd thing about DID is the ‘original’ personality is unaware of the other personalities and has blackouts. Eve White in Three Faces of Eve describes her own DID symptoms as blackouts of no memory, and she has no recollection of actions while within the other personality or another altogether, while her other personality Eve Black knows of her. A main difference between DID and schizophrenia is that the DID person is aware that something is wrong when they have amnesia of daily activities, but schizophrenics do not understand that they have any problem at all. John Nash in A Beautiful Mind believes he is perfectly fine, although he is experiencing hallucinations of voices and people, even his roommate Charles. Nash even has delusions of threats by Soviets and that one may murder his wife and child. Most schizophrenics take different perceptions upon situations, why John Nash could crack codes in his head unlike other agents.…

Usually dissociative identity disorder develops when a person is very stressed in childhood, or undergoes some type of abuse, sexual or physical. The DSM states the primary characteristic of the disorder is when there is an existence of more than one distinct identity or personality within a person. The different identities then “take control” over the person at different times, and the real identity is pushed away. There really isn’t a perfect treatment yet for people with DID, most individuals who develop DID usually try to keep it a secret and do not seek medical help. Also it is difficult to diagnose because you have to determine if it really is a separate personality the person has or if they are acting. When someone truly does have DID it can take years of treatment to cure the patient.…

Schizophrenia is a psychological disorder that involves severely distorted beliefs, perceptions, and thought processes (Hockenbury & Hockenbury, 2011, p. 563). People who have schizophrenia are not capable of telling the difference between what is real and what is not. They become engulfed in an entirely different inner world, one that is often characterized by mental chaos, disorientation, and frustration (Hockenbury & Hockenbury, 2011, p. 563).…

People with different personalities can be given the same diagnosis because the DSM-IV says that “individuals must meet a certain number of criteria from DSM-IV to receive a given diagnosis” (Comer, 2005, p. 414) but it does not specify the features of a given diagnosis. This makes it difficult to give the right diagnosis to someone who may display symptoms of two closely related or overlapping disorders.…

Dissociative Identity Disorder is also known as “Multiple Personality Disorder”. This can be defined as an effect of severe trauma during early childhood, usually extreme, repetitive physical, sexual or emotional abuse. I chose this topic because I had to do a research paper about it in my Psychology class, so I just used the research I did to do this paper. This was my first choice of a topic because it’s a psychological disorder that I have been fascinated with, since coming to America. Although there were times that I had to look for a topic that was much broader, such as, “disorders and women” in general in order to find anything reliable about my topic.…

Why will people have this kind of illness? and What dissociative disorder characters is alike? In the film, the police officer had analyzed his handwriting and according to the preliminary evaluation, he could be an indolence or even lethargy person. It is one sad thing about the dissociative disorder patients. “Dissociative disorders are characterized by an involuntary escape from reality characterized by a disconnection between thoughts, identity, consciousness and memory.” (National alliance on Mental Illness, 2016) In this quote clearly tells about how dissociative disorder patients will cause the consciousness of his inner pain activity or memory from the psychological solution, which shifts from another mode to protect themselves, but it also loses the wholeness of self. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders describes that DID can get mixed up with other disorders such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, psychotic disorders, substance/medication-induced disorders, personality disorders, conversion disorder, seizure disorders, and factitious disorder and malingering. Dissociative identity disorder’s symptoms are so similar to the symptoms of these disorders that patients with DID are often diagnosed with the wrong disorder.
