Essay On Drum Major

If I had the opportunity to leave three things in a time capsule it would be my drum major whistle, my bible, and my favorite bowtie. All three of these items are symbolic of the characteristics and positions I have had throughout my life as a young man.
Holding the office of drum major in a marching band is a very strenuous duty. Most individuals consider drum majors to be the face and entertainment of the band, specifically with show style marching bands. However, the role of a drum major demands a more imperative trait that separates incompetent drum majors from exceptional drum majors. The trait of leadership is a superior factor in the character of a drum major. Leadership is not equivalent to control, however, leadership is a form of serving the followers who are in need of guidance. This ultimately means that the leader is responsible for maintaining the followers in a standard of excellence. Being drum major molded me into understanding my characteristics as a leader. I have been a member of my parents church since the church’s first service. Therefore, I am very active in ministry. I was recently appointed to the position of Youth Minister in December 2015. Regardless of the fact that my parents are the pastors of the church I attend, the role of Youth Minister, in training, is dear to my heart. Especially because I am of youth myself, I feel that I have a lot to offer the youth ministry. It is evident that I relate to those that are my age in the church, however, I have been through what the younger teens are currently going through.
