Even though many people attend church today, religion no longer influences schools, government, or society in general. In the early 1900s, churches or religious groups determined how men, women and children were to behave in order to be determined to be moral and just. Men were encouraged to abstain from alchol, be frugal and work hard. If a man continued to live in poverty, he was seen as immoral and met with God’s disapproval. In the eyes of the church, women were obedient to their husbands. Women who had sex outside of marriage, wore pants or drank alchol were viewed as having loose morals. In conclusion, we are just as moral today as we were in the early 1900s. The difference comes from each person in todays society has their own morals and what they determine to be morally just from a rational person. Morality changes as society changes, and many things once seen as immoral are now accepted as moral.
