Three categories of abortion exist today two of which raise ethical issues, they are spontaneous abortion, therapeutic abortion, elective abortion. Spontaneous abortion also known as a miscarriage normally caused under natural circumstances, and without human intervention. Therapeutic abortion is the abortion of a pregnancy due to medical reasons or complication. Elective abortion is the abortion of a pregnancy at the request of the pregnant woman for personal reasons without specific medical reasoning. Now that we have an understanding of the types of abortion, we will focus on one of the three types of abortion that bring up ethical debate therapeutic abortion. Addressing the ethical issues in regards to abortion we will follow the steps in the ethical decision making process to determine the most ethical solution. First, we will define the biggest issue of abortion and that is at what point we consider an embryo a human with life essentially a person with rights. Those who take the “prolife” stance believe there is a lack in the value of life in the legality of women’s rights to abortion.
