Puritans, in the 16th and 17th centuries, believed in predestination, which means a person’s fate has already been chosen before he or she entered the world. However, some of the Puritans began to realize that their hard work ethic began to decline because of what they believed, which was sayings like, “ nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames wrath, nothing of your own, nothing that you have ever done, nothing you can do, to induce God to spare you the moment,” (Edwards 110). There are different understandings of these beliefs, which have dramatically changed overtime, that could be terrifying to grasp and learn about. These assumptions have framed how society is diverse in a way where someone believes on thing, and the other believes something totally different. There is never an in between in modern times, stated by Khols.
