that is necessary. Currently, women and children in Mississippi face the greatest challenges when regarding the overall health and wellbeing of children.
A few of the many challenges that women and children of Mississippi face are food insecurity, low birthweight, unintended pregnancy, and physical inactivity among women. However, in a state such as Massachusetts, the overall child health rate is exceptional due to a low teen birth rate, low mortality rate, and low percentage of obese women. The report on the nation’s health states, “This large difference suggests that Mississippi will likely continue to rank 50th in future editions of this report without large, state-wide interventions to improve the health of women, infants, and children” (America’s Health Rankings 12). The state of Mississippi is in desperate need of an intervention to enhance the live of all the residents. The children and women of Mississippi are being negatively affected due to the lack of a healthy diet and daily exercise. These damaging and negative traits that are currently being associated with the people of Mississippi can be changed if the people of this state work hard to improve their daily
lifestyles.
Children in the United States are also impacted tremendously by their environments that they are in every day. The home is a huge place where children become who they are, and a child need to be positively influenced by what they are around daily. After a study was done to evaluate the overall health of America’s children, it was determined that, “Across the United States, the health of children is strongly influenced by healthy, safe, and supportive home environments and communities” (America’s Health Rankings 16). Many women during pregnancy and even after, smoke tobacco products and drink alcohol. Smoking and alcohol can be very dangerous to a baby who is still present in the mother’s womb. Even after the infant is born, mothers and also fathers smoke and drink alcohol around their children. Smoking can have a harmful effect on the child’s lungs from simply just breathing in secondhand smoke, and watching a parent drink may cause that child to start drinking at a very young age. A home is supposed to be a safe and loving place for children to come, and a child should be taught the right things to do at home by parents. It is definitely time for parents to take more responsibility and teach their children how to live a healthier life.
All things considered, the United States of America is in dire need of all citizen to be aware of their health and to ensure the overall good health of others. It is key to keep the children and women of the United States healthy because the children are America’s future, and the women are the ones who give birth to the children. The health of women and children in America and the overall health of people in Mississippi should continue to be monitored closely until the residents of this state are not facing the same challenges any longer.
