Headlines of the 1930’s:
Adolf Hitler’s Rise to Power
On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany as the Nazi political leader. His rise to power occurred during a worldwide economic depression, where much poverty struck leaving millions without a job. It was also post-World War 1, 15 years before the 1930’s, where the Germans has little faith in their government. Under these conditions, Adolf Hitler and his party, the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, were given the chance for the rise of a new leader.
However, Hitler’s first goal was to become president of Germany during the presidential elections of 1932. He fought fiercely against the Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg. Hitler gained the support of German industrialists who thought their current politicians knew nothing of their economy (“How Did Hitler Come To Power?”) . In the end, Hitler lost to Hindenburg, but came quite close reaching 35 percent of the votes. This did not discourage Hitler’s journey for political power, as he started to eye Chancellor of Parliament.

He validated his alliance with Italy with the “Pact of Steel” and signed a nonaggression pact with Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Union (“Adolf Hitler”) . Hitler then infiltrated Poland on September 1, 1939, which led to Britain and France declaring war on Germany just two days later. This was one of the many things that ignited what is now known as World War 2. What would occur after is a bloody and long six year back-and-forth war, ending with Hitler committing suicide with his wife, just as Soviet forces closed in on him less than a mile
