Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour”, was published over a century ago in 1894, but even with its age the story manages to be relevant in modern times. Upon first glance the short story is fleeting at only two pages in length and lasts for only an hour and due to this it could be seen as simple. This short story tells the tale of Louise Mallard, who has heart issues, learns from her sister Josephine that her husband, Brently Mallard was killed in train accident. Upon hearing this terrible news, she immediately started to cry before retreating to her room. In her room Louise Mallard goes through a profound awakening. Sometime later, Josephine goes and gets Louise from her room and upon going down the stairs; Louise is shocked to see her reportedly dead husband coming into their home. Mrs. Mallard suddenly dies, which doctors attributed to her heart troubles. Although at first this story seems simple, but surprisingly “The Story of an Hour” is a deep and symbolic story, full of irony and feminist themes of freedom and self awareness.…

In this essay I will write about two different philosophers and how I agree on them in each of the philosophies and their ideas. I will write how their ideas and philosophies helped the American and French Revolutions. My two philosophers were Wollstonecraft and Montesquieu they each had something different but helped in some ways. Like Wollstonecraft wanted rights for women and help women be treated just like everyone with the same equality. Montesquieu wanted to have 3 branches do divide the powers so that other people had powers too, not just the king or something.…

The Haitian revolution shook the foundation of the institution of slavery and racial hierarchy. Liberty, Equality, and the freedom from slavery were the driving forces behind the Haitian Revolution. Historians like David Geggus argued the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions were fighting for the same reasons but “unlike the American Revolution of 1776 and the French Revolution of 1789, the Haitian insurrection directly challenged the system of racial hierarchy”. Slaves in the French colony of Saint Domingo knew liberty and equality could not coexist with the institution of slavery. The slaves of Saint Domingo demanded their freedom from the French by any means necessary. Their goal was to be self-governed and not under the control…

The Haitian Revolution is described as the largest and most successful slave rebellion in the Western Hemisphere. It was first initiated in 1791 by slaves, with Toussaint L’Ouverture as the leader of the pack. They had become successful by 1803 by ending slavery as well as putting an end to the control that the French had over their colonies. Back in the 18th century, Saint Domingue, as Haiti was once called, was France’s wealthiest overseas colony because of its sugar, coffee, cotton, and indigo produced by the enslaved labor force.…

Some[who?] have claimed that the film was one of the earliest examples of pataphysical film, while stating that the film aims to "show the illogicality of logical thinking".[9] Others still have remarked that the director, Georges Méliès, aimed in the film to "invert the hierarchal values of modern French society and hold them up to ridicule in a riot of the carnivalesque".[9] This is seen as an inherent part of the film's plot: the story pokes fun at the scientists and at science in general, in that upon traveling to the Moon, the astronomers find that the face of the Moon is, in fact, the face of a man, and that it is populated by little green men.[9][page needed]…
