One of the first challenges I faced was when I first started elementary school. My mother and father had just divorced and I started to feel the effects of it. It took a toll on my young self and I was struggling. I was about seven years old and one of the things I loved was school. I pushed through the hardship and dedicated myself to school, instead of worrying about my parents divorce. By dedicating myself to school it helped me out greatly and caused me to understand dedication and hard work at a very early age. This is one of the earliest experiences I can recall about facing a major obstacle and I pushed through it.
Another major life challenge I faced again had to do with divorce. At …show more content…
this point in my life I was in the 6th grade and my mother and stepfather had told me they were going to get a divorce. Being a bit older it took a more drastic toll on me. This divorce split me from my half brothers and caused a great deal of personal grief. I tried to push through it and focus on my life and my future. I became even more active in school and started doing extracurricular activities and Pre-Ap classes to draw the focus away from the second divorce. This built up my life skills and caused my work ethic to increase dramatically. Even though my parents had just divorced I was able to find a positive and overcome the obstacle during that hard time.
In High School I was able to move on from the problems I experienced in my early life.
I built upon my skills and became widely involved in many extracurricular activities. But I am still faced with obstacles and challenges regularly. A prominent one occurred in the 10th grade when I first joined debate. I wanted to succeed in the debate tournaments that are crucial for the class, being new I did not know much about the various events and I worked hard in preparation to do successful at the tournaments. The hard work and determination paid off and I qualified two events for districts. Due to the fact I had qualified for districts I pushed myself even further and I made it to the semifinals at the regional tournament. This was in my very first year in debate and was an amazing accomplishment. This obstacle taught me that in the end hard work and dedication pay off and has conditioned me to work hard to achieve my goals in
life.
Throughout life obstacles and challenges are unavoidable. It is how you deal with them that defines you as a person. Due to the fact that I figured out how to deal with them in my childhood, continuing into middle school, and high school in the present day. Dealing with these obstacles and challenges taught me priceless skill sets and abilities that make me the person I am today and I am very grateful for that.
