Essay On Pakistani-American Women
The ideal image of a Pakistani woman is a housewife. Women become completely dependent on their spouse and spend the rest of their lives cooking, cleaning, and raising children. Women are far more independent in America and have more opportunities to display their capability. Being a Pakistani-American woman, I have the opportunity to decide whether I want to be a housewife or a working woman. As a child, I was oblivious to why being independent is so important. Most of my life, I had never been exposed to a Pakistani woman who had a stable income and could support herself. I thought I would eventually become an ordinary housewife like everyone else. When I started high school, my parents encouraged me to study hard so I have …show more content…
It was not just a little quarrel over bills; it was intense. My mother decided she wanted to leave the house for a few days. She packed her bags and bought a bus ticket to New York. I was devastated. She went outside to wait for a cab, but my father went behind her to talk her out of it. They spent a while talking things out and, eventually, he brought her back home. I was relieved, but a bit brokenhearted at the same time. My mother married young and did not have the same opportunities as I do. She had the potential to accomplish great things, but her circumstances held her back. That night, I recognized how little control my mother has of her own life. She never got the opportunity to attain an education, find a well-paying job, and live without having to rely on anyone. That night, I got the answer to my question. I finally realize the true value of education. My goal is to become an independent individual that has full authority over her life. I will work to my full potential and live the life I deserve. This incident transformed me from a confused, aimless girl into a determined and purposeful woman. I choose to take advantage of the opportunities I have and make my parents

The concept of women staying home to nurture kids and complete other tasks of that nature is practiced in many places. For those people, it's just their way of living. It's how and what they have grown up to think is right or acceptable. These are their gender roles. Recently, more and more Pakistani women have been beginning to leave the whole concept of staying home their whole life, and getting an education. More places are doing this because they have realized that to improve a country, they must first set a strong foundation. That foundation is education.…

When the men had to go leave for war, this opened up a vast majority of jobs for women to take over since the work industry could not stop without men as the economy of Canada would become terrible. Women had to do jobs that they would normally never do, like working labour jobs or in factories of different kinds. Even through all the trauma and stress women were going through, they were being very successful with having these many job opportunities. Most women had kids that they had to watch too, so they weren’t just doing one job. Also, the most favoured job that women were choosing was becoming a nurse, about 2400 women became a nurse in this time of the year. These nurses had to sometimes go into battles and help the wounded and they also helped treat…

I remember I sometimes hated leaving my mom and dad. I wished I could be with both of them at the same time. Me and my sisters lived in a new house in Everett, with our then new Step dad, Mom, and baby sister Meghan. Whenever we went over to my dads, there was always something my parents were fighting about, whether it involved us or not, we would always get an earful from both of them. This point of their separation really affected me the most. I didn’t realize until I got older that we should have never been exposed to that part of their lives, considering how young we were. Another part of their divorce was dealing with a step dad I’ve never been fond of, and neither were my sisters. It was somewhat of a culture shock, him growing up in Mexico, and for us, as we began living with a guy who wasn’t even our dad. I would always ask my mom why she couldn’t have married someone else. Someone we liked. My step dad was the type of guy who only cared about his “real” children, not us. It became a constant struggle for attention from my Mom. When we were young, my sister and I were treated like maids around the house when my step dad was around. He is honestly one of the main reasons why the divorce was so heartbreaking for me and my siblings. I feel as if my mom had married someone who supported her and loved her unconditionally; it would have made more of a positive impact during this hard time in our…

In the early years of my childhood my mother had been only in the states for only couple of years. Consequently, when my mother was entering the United States she had lost one of her shins, and for a short time was disable until, she finally got help from a friend who contacted her doctor and donated a prosthetic leg. Even through trouble times my mother never let nothing get to her, so right away she got up and found her first job at a local restaurant that didn't require any social security or to speak the english language, yet in effect it didn't pay so well. Thereupon, our lives wasn't like an average Joe. Our home was a size of shoe box only four walls, one large bed, a sink, toilet, and a small gas stove all in one room, yet my mother never shed light how small our home was but how bless we are so we all stayed faithful. When it was time for school my mother couldn't always afford us to buy us new clothes, so we went shopping at the flea market or garage sales. As the school year ended families were heading to summer vacation and going out of town. Unfortunately since our financial standing we never had the chance to pleasure summer vacation. However, I didn't mind not having an average summer vacation, because my version of summer was staying back with my mother listening…

My mother helped me to make one of the most important decisions, which is to choose between living in the United States with her and the rest of my family, and living by myself in Austria in my country. This decision was hard for me to make, since I was born, raised and had lived my whole life in Austria and did not want to leave for several reasons; school, my friends and memories. One day she sat down with me and told me how important it is to have trust in myself with everything that I do, not to be afraid of making wrong choices or decisions. She said no matter which way I will choose, she will always be there for me. I started crying and hugged. She gave me the choice of staying in Austria; no mother would ever give that opportunity to her own daughter knowing that she might not see her for a long time. She gave me that choice to make, but I decided to stay with her, just because of being with her, continue learning from her, and hopefully someday being like her.…

It was my first day of class and I was extremely nervous and excited at the same time. I hadn’t been a student in a classroom in over 10 years. I wouldn’t let my nervousness get the best of me though. I had to succeed; if not for me, I had to do it for my children. I was all they had now, and they were all I had. I wanted my children to grow up and describe their mother as a strong and determined woman. One who would do anything for her children. In the past all they had known is a scared and cowardly mother and an abusive father. That would never exist again in our worlds, and I would make sure of that. I was free now and starting a new life for us. A year ago I would have never thought I would be in nursing school.…
