My parents are illegal immigrants, I have no shame in that, and they are some of the hardest workers I have ever seen. I was born in Dallas, Texas, and lived in the city of Pleasant Grove for the first year of my life at my uncle’s house. Most people refer to that area as the “hood” but here I am. When I began to go to school my whole world opened up. I was put into the Bilingual program in my school and just after a few weeks I was speaking in English like a pro and I was so happy to tell my mother my first accomplishment due to their tremendous feat. At school, my teachers began to notice my thirst for learning and began to send me to classrooms of upper-grade levels in order for me to do their work. Of course being the innocent child that I was, I was more than happy to come along.
Throughout the weeks they began to see my potential and put me in the Quest Program which puts the brightest elementary school kids together and my school driven attitude started from there. I was put in the gifted and talented program in middle school and I am still currently in it. I have passed 11 AP tests to date and have received recognition from that as well as my PSAT ACT and SAT scores, and I am the current Valedictorian at Mesquite High School.
