In high school, most of the students are more preoccupied on socializing than in acquiring an education and cheating is common among students. Cheating and plagiarism among students have increased during the years and a high percentage of people have admitted that they cheated in some point of their high school. Cheating and plagiarism only harm the student. However, the teachers should do more on this issue. In my own experience, when I attended high school, teachers did not failed students who cheated, they give out a passing grade for an effortless work or test. When entering college, students are forced to take remedial classes to learn the basics that they did not learn in high school. Math, reading and writing are fundamentals to continue an education or join the workforce. And the percentage of students in remedial classes reveal the problem; education system in high school is not effective in preparing students. In addition, groups of students agree that high schools do not have high enough academic expectations and that they are not challenged enough. It can be understandable that some people think because students graduated they have acquired effective communication skills, develop responsibility and at least the minimum require knowledge; that are all necessary to success.
