Quevedo was born on September 17th, 1580 in Madrid, Spain to parents, María de Santibáñez and Francisco Gómez de Quevedo. This means that he is Spanish. He died on September 8th, 1645 in Villanueva de los Infantes, Spain. His early childhood was filled with wealth and politics. He was raised as an upper-class man, and went to the University of Alcalá at the age of 16. He continued his education for ten years, though he had switched halfway to the University of Valladolid. By the time of his graduation, Quevedo had mastered the languages of English, French, Latin, and Italian, as well as the language that he had grown up with, Spanish, by the time of his graduation. He started working for Duke de Osuna in 1613, who had dreamed of claiming Venice for his own political purposes. But his plan had failed, and the Duke of Osuna had a major fall from grace, taking Quevedo with him. Francisco was placed on house arrest under the Spanish king, Philip IV. Quevedo withdrew himself from pursuing politics and emerged himself into writing for the rest of his life. Although, he was arrested a second time by in 1639, for a poem that he had written about Gaspar de Guzmán y Pimentel, Count-Duke of Olivares, who was Philip's favorite. He was released in 1643, and died two years
