overlooked and forgotten by many in the society. In the world of discrimination and separation, it is essential to have a realization that racism still exist. Although some might say people with color get treated differently in a positive way, racism is becoming a remaining issue in America that is hurting the lives of African Americans.
First, racial differences in America are still seen. While white Americans can go to school and have everyday as a normal day most African Americans can not because of discrimination. JBW tucker states, ¨ While black students only make up 18% of student population. 35% of those are suspended once, 46% of those are suspended more than once, and 39% of those are expelled…..¨ Black boys can be seen for their actions at an age when white boys still benefit from the assumption that children are essentially innocent.¨ In other words, it is showing how school are discriminating African Americans because they are getting in trouble at school for the smallest things that if a white kid did it would not be a problem. Discrimination means to treat a group of people differently than another because of race, age, or sex. Now that you are able to perceive the fact that people that are a different race do get treated in a wrong manner you can realize racism does exist.
Second, racism in America is still existent because many people of color are stereotyped and separated into a group to be very violent people. When you think of a stereotypical African American many people picture the same image in their mind. Charles Graham says, ¨ I took a poll of 50 people and asked them to picture in there mind an African AMerican male and most saw the stereotypical African American male ( ¨ thug ¨ ) . Yet all of the 50 people I asked were African American males, if you believe the stereotype you will never be able to change it. Simply put, he is saying that now even African Americans themselves are thinking the worst images for their race because of racism and groups of people that are labeled. It is difficult to not believe your own stereotype if everyone looks at you in that manner. Separation means to put a label on different groups of people that is most of the time not true. In this case, because of the given stereotype to African Americans it is hard to deny it if you are seen that way by the majority of people you know.
If racism still exist why was an African American president elected not only once but twice. This shows that not only does racism not exist, people with color are ,lucky and have ¨ special treatment ¨ in a positive manner. Yet, people with color still get treated like they are less than everyone else. ¨ A white male with a criminal record is 5% more likely to get a job than an equally qualified person of color with a clear record.¨ Why would this be a special treatment of colored people? If this was you would you be feeling lucky?Furthermore, thousands of rallys and protests have been made due to the separation and discrimination of racism.. ¨I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character¨, this was once said by Martin Luther King Jr. and still till this day we have not been able to succeed and accomplish his dream.Overall, African Americans are still getting the wrong treatment from people who are thought to be better than them. Through all that colored people go through 60% of white people are satisfied with the treatment of black people in society. The fact that people still believe it is fair to treat others with disrespect because of racial differences shows that racism in america is still present.
It is clear to see that racism is an ongoing issue in American lives that in ways infringes on people's lives, in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 it states ¨This prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin.¨ To assume that 102 unarmed African Americans were killed by the police twice a week shows that not only the United States has problems with racism but their are having difficulties due to racism.
When you see someone that is getting discriminated or separated from something because of their race, do you try to do anything to help? As a country that has always had some sort of complication with racism, it is important to recognize the troubles and hardships that people that are a different race have. Some do not agree your race still plays a big role in not only jobs and other circumstances but your social life in general. If you are a different race you will get treated as if you were less than somebody and that is for the most part true in many cases. Returning to the original words of Martin Luther King Jr. ¨ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.¨ Even though his words were heard by thousands it still did not fully change how people acted towards different
races.
