Due to affirmative action, many employers have hired lower qualified minority members over qualified majority members to meet a certain percentage of minority members. This has caused productively to reduce. Studies have reached the same conclusion, differences across gender or race are due to unobserved quality differences or discrimination. Studies have also shown that affirmative action has played a significant role in minority employment. (Leonard, 1983)
Just as revere discrimination has its upsides it also has its downsides. Programs have arisen to ensure that minorities such as, blacks and women, do not continue to be discriminated against. Our society has continued to take a long time to be rid of the pattern of injustice that has been present for generations. A program like reverse discrimination can get in the way of helping minorities get an equal opportunity. (Jones, 1977)
