Everyday, people make the choice of doing their responsibilities like waking up in the morning and getting ready to attend school. Though, Still dark and gloomy out, trying to keep ourselves awake during each class period, had wish we could get a few more hours asleep to be fully awaken and going if only we push the school start time. But, does it really gain enough hours of sleep? Putting thought into it, Not only it extends the time, but it also pushes back after school activities, priorities at home, work and time for ourselves. It’s already difficult enough to squeeze schedules of after school or extracurricular activities available daytime hours if school started later. The Chicago Tribune had posted an article, “Realities of later high school start times wake up call for districts” the author Marwa Eltagouri reported that, “Officials estimate changing the start time of the day to about 8 a.m. would cost the district at least $1 million. The money would help cover the cost of the additional 20 to 25 buses necessary to pickup high-schoolers at the same time as younger students, said Jeff Arnett, chief communications officer for the district,” (Eltagouri). Moreover, it will take time for the board, to collaborate and concur with the whole. It also takes the students opinion upon changing the school time and rearranging their own. Busses do consider the traffic during the later time of day of rush hour, gas spent picking and/or dropping of students and taking a 15 minute trip to school to an an hour drive to get to school.
