Not all seahorses are fish... Ha,ha get it? Well actually no seahorse is a fish, they’re mammals because they give birth to live young. Enough of these bad jokes and keep reading to learn more about the seahorse!
Seahorses are very interesting in the way them move and look. When a seahorse swims it looks like they are on a carousel. Their heads are up and backs curved straight back like a horse’s back. These little mind tricking animals, they look like a scaly fish but they don’t have any scales at all! Their tails are like human fingers and grab things to hang onto since they can’t swim well. Another cool feature of the seahorse is their eyes can move independently of each other.
Seahorses don’t have a lot of predators but still they are hunted. Some predators of the seahorse are: penguins, stingrays, manta rays, crabs, and the worst humans, and the sad thing almost no sea animal is not hunted by humans. Warm tropical , shallow, and calm waters (Well sometimes on the calm). They can be found in North and South America and also in Europe.
When seahorses breed they do a mating dance for 12 HOURS while they bond. After The female give the male the eggs, ya that’s right the male gives birth, and then he keeps them. When the male is waiting for the babies to be born the female checks on him every single day. As it gets closer to birth the males becomes aggressive and puffed up like he is swollen. After 45 days the male give birth to anywhere from 50 babies to 1,500. But sadly only about 1% will live to be mature. The babies mature in about 4 to 5 months and as soon as the are born they are off and away.
