Felice Arena and Garry Lyon. Simon (Specky) Magee injures himself and can't play football for his school. he disobeys his parents and is grounded. He meets new people and faces the pressures that all teenagers face. I feel that this is a perfect book for all teenagers because can relate to at least one of the characters.
Specky is a 13-year-old boy whose life is driven by Australian Football. He is a little bit rebellious and the stereotypical teenage boy. His friends all have similar interests and similar personalities. Specky's sister Alice is the classic 17-year-old teen. She is always on the phone or going on dates and doesn't care much about her little brother's life. …show more content…
Screamer is the bully in this story and he is also dating Specky's old girlfriend (Christina). When screamer finds out that Specky disobeyed his parents and doctor’s orders he blackmails him into staying away from Christina. Screamer is constantly embarrassing Specky and insulting him even though Specky had never done anything to him. Some people can relate to this issue if they have been bullied for no reason at all and it may make them feel better about it because they will know they are not alone. At the start of the book, Specky goes to the doctor who tells him that he can't play football for another 7 weeks. Specky disobeys the instructions and plays furthering the injury. Many teens can relate to this incident because many of them have injured themselves as Specky did and then injured it more despite what they were advised not to do.
In conclusion, I would recommend the novel ‘Specky Magee and the season of champions’ to all teenagers as it is a good book to read that most people can relate to. The authors Garry Lyon and Felice Arena used characterization to portray the different types of teens and they used real themes and issues that occur in the Australia today. The literary aspects in this book were near sound and I would rate this book at about
