The Albany Plan was the first time Americans rejected the idea of a powerful government and this happened during the colonial period. The Albany Plan was devised by Benjamin Franklin and was constructed to aid the colonies during the French and Indian War. It was reputed to unite the people, make Indian treaties, create and army, and build forts. It was a magnificent idea, but the people rejected it because it would give this new government the ability to tax in order to pay for everything. Overall this plan failed because of American’s fear of an overly powerful national government.

Even before the creation of America the people living there feared that a strong central government would give the national government too much power and to stop that from happening the people rejected the idea altogether as seen in the Albany Plan, the Articles of Confederation, and the Anti-Federalists. The Albany Plan would have been a strong central government but the people did not want the government to be able to tax them so they rejected it. The Articles of Confederation was an attempt at not having a extremely powerful government but having a strong government and the Anti-Federalists tried to prevent the best, strongest, and longest lasting government from ever from happening.
