Although science fiction is mostly dominated by white male authors, Octavia Butler certainly gave this book her own unique twist. Her real-life experiences as a woman of color gave her much insight and inspiration to work on her book.
Although many recommend reading her earlier book, Kindred first, the Parable of the Talents is on the reading list of a lot of black people at the moment. The story is about a senator who is trying hard to make America great again. This series is going to be re-released in 2017.
Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
The author, Roxane Gay, is such a fearless writer. Her collection of essays will make every woman feel confident and beautiful while embracing the idea of feminism. Gay believes that feminism helps support the choices women make.
Her essays incorporate pop culture lifestyle as well as her own personal experiences as a Haitian-American. The topics also touch a variety of subjects that are relevant to the African-American everyday
life.
