About 1% of people are born with autism. Christopher Boone is born with autism. He would be part of the 1% of people. In the book of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon Christopher goes on a mission to find the murderer of the dog next door. He has a difficult time throughout the story because of him disabilities. He later finds out that it was his father who murdered the dog and he leaves because of his fright of his father to go visit his mom in the “hospital”. Christopher has a very hard time communicating and interacting with others; he doesn’t like to be touched, he can’t trust anyone and he can’t have a normal conversation with others. Christopher can’t stand being touched and because of that he sets boundaries

Christopher has to communicate and have conversations with many people throughout the story to figure out who murdered the dog. Haddon explains, “And she said, ‘I see you everyday, going to school.’ I didn’t reply to this. And she said, ‘It’s very nice of you to come and say hello.’ I didn’t reply to this either because Mrs. Alexander was doing what is called chatting…” (40). Haddon’s purpose is so that the story has a problem. He gives Christopher this disability so that he runs into problems and dilemmas as he goes on his journey. He must chose if he really wants to talk to a person or not and if he does how will he. He has a difficult time getting information because of this. Throughout the story of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime Christopher must connect with other humans by; touching, trusting and talking. It is very painful and uncomfortable for Christopher to do this. We can see it by the way he reacts to theses situations. Mark Haddon is a very unique author and he looks at things differently than other authors. He looks at other ways to create a story with unique characters and traits.
