The first policy of containment was because of American spy George Kennan and his Long Telegram to the U.S. on February 22th, 1946 “The U.S. should be patient and vigilant in practicing containment against the U.S.S.R.”(Kennan). On June 25th 1950 North Korea (Doc C, Map) . North Korea was supported by China and they were communist while South Korea was supported by the United States; the U.S. decided to join the war. The map portrays that the U.S., South Korea and those in the United Nations were nearly pushed off the Korean peninsula. North Korea attacked because they wanted to help the spread of communism. General Douglass MacArthur then helped South Korea push back North Korea back to the Chinese border. This shows the American policy of containment because this demonstrated that the U.S. was fighting against the spread of
