Mrs. Mallard has a different point of view when it come to the death of her husband. Mrs. Mallard is afflicted with a heart problem and if someone had bad news for her then they have to be careful while telling her. When she found out that her husband had passed away she was upset and sad at first because she did not realize that at that time she would be free. She didn’t hate her husband, she said she actually loved him sometimes. When she realized she was free and she wasn’t trapped in her marriage with her husband she was actually happy. She kept repeating “Free! Body and soul free!” Meaning that she was free, she could do what she wanted to do and did not have …show more content…
to worry about upsetting her husband in anyway. She realized that now that her husband is gone that she can do what she wants until she passes away and hopefully it's not for a long time so she can live a long happy life without him there. Mrs.
Mallard’s death at the end of the story is another unexpected twist. Readers wouldn't expect that she would be the one that actually died at the end of the story. At the beginning of the story she finds out that her husband supposedly passed away. Then to turn out that he did not actually die in the accident. When he opens the door and she sees him, the shock of him being alive killed her. She did not think that she would die because she’s happy and she did not think anything bad because of it. When her sister was saying “you will make yourself ill”, she did not think that she was because of how happy and free she felt on the
inside. The reader's expectations are completely opposite of how she actually reacted in the story. Mrs. Mallard is addressed by her husband by that way and other people because her identity is tied up with her husband. Her sister calls her by her name because she sees her as an individual person and not someone who is ‘behind’ her husband. People would think she could not live without a man and wouldnt understand why she was so happy that he had passed away. People wouldn’t understand why she was so happy that he had passed away, they would get that she was stuck in a marriage that she did not like to be in but had no other choice. People would think that when someone's husband passed away would of been so in love with them that you would of been upset. People would also expect that if someone wasn't happy in their relationship then they would of left and wouldn't of stayed with them. If someone's partner passed away people wouldn't expect someone to be thinking about all the joy you're going to have. People would think that if someone had a heart problem they would of done everything to make sure that they did not die from the heart disease. People would of also expected that someone actually knew for sure what they were saying were true before they started to be upset over his death and wouldn’t be thinking about the positives of him being gone.
Many people think differently about death, it's a person’s own opinion on how they take death. If someone is not happy in a relationship they shouldn't be in that relationship. They should leave it, if they think that they would be happy if they passed away or feel ‘free’, then they shouldn't be in the relationship they are in. The story of an hour examines multiple effect of a non happy relationship and the causes of them.
