Vladek was a man of many talents. He spoke four languages (English,German, Yiddish, and Polish), he could build and craft, and he had connections in his family and in Anja’s family. In many occasions in the book, speaking a different language helped him survive, in the last 2-3 pages of Maus I Vladek is asked if he could write German so this one man can get a parcel of food. Vladek said yes and began to write and after a short time, the parcel arrived and the man offered Vladek to take anything he wanted from the parcel since Vladek has helped the man. On another situation , he is walking by some kids and the kids start yelling, “A Jew! A Jew!” Vladek was able to save himself by immediately starting to talk German to kids and the parents, so he went on with his day. Vladek could've easily been taken by the Nazis and killed.
