There are several tragedies in the story of Hamlet, and one of them is the leading to Ophelia’s death. Some of the many questions asked in The Tragedy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare is whether or not Ophelia was killed or committed suicide and who was to blame for her actions. Many can argue that King Claudius was the one who caused it, but in reality he did not lead anything towards Ophelia. King Claudius only wanted the crown, the queen, and to kill Hamlet. The people to blame for Ophelia’s death are Hamlet, Laertes, and Polonius; the three men in her life who drive her to become weak. Hamlet is to blame because he targeted Ophelia as to make him appear insane, Laertes for controlling her and telling her what to do, but leaving later on and coming back caring less for her, and Polonius for controlling her and being protective, but not protective enough. …show more content…
He then tells her “get thee to a nunnery! Why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners” (III.i.120-121)? He insults her to show a sign of him going crazy, but doing this also affects Ophelia’s feelings.
