McClellan may be one of the most underrated generals in history. He was committed to saving his country AND his soldiers, which is also why he was so beloved by his men. He matched Lee battle for battle and destroyed him in Antietam (that battle was unquestionably a Union victory, it wasn't even close. If you wish to argue that point, first, name the different phases of the battle, then tell me which of those phases the South won. Second, running away in defeat doesn't count as a win when the enemy has the power to destroy you utterly, but doesn't because he is a good person). The civil war was only about slavery to the South. However, most people in the South had nothing to do with slavery. Slavery was an issue only for the very wealthy. The South rebelled because a few wealthy folk preyed upon the ignorant masses in order to keep their investments low and profits high. Unfortunately, the war did not change this. Ending slavery didn't fix the problems. We still had the problem of education and poor chance for a good wage, for whites or blacks. Following the civil war, the rich elite simply sought to pit poor whites against poor blacks, while exploiting both. This practice continues to this
