Intro
Women of most cultures are secondary to men. Because women can’t work in the fields and don’t have the same strength, they generally come second in the hierarchy. Even today, though it may be unintentional, that’s how it is.
Thesis
Women fared better in Egypt rather than Greece because they had more rights; they had more control over their own lives. In Egypt, women had legal rights, property rights, and economic rights. On the other hand, Greek women always had a guardian with rights over them; in their society, a woman’s place was under a man at all times. Women of ancient Egypt were more involved in their own lives than the Greek women who had less choice.

Both Greek and Egyptian women took a dowry with them into their marriage. As in most cultures, women of both Egypt and Greece were lower than men. However, in the case of divorce, both Egyptian and Greek women took back their dowries, but an Egyptian woman also “received custody of the kids, her original dowry, her personal possessions including any gifts her husband had given her during their marriage, and any property that had been willed to her during her marriage. Plus, she received about one third (1/3) of her husband's wealth, so she could take good care of the children (Donn).” She would also be more likely to have the ability to find work to support herself whereas Greek women would find it much more difficult.
Women from Egypt had so much more in the way of economic and property rights compared to women from Greece causing them to be more economically stable without a man and giving them more control over their own lives.
