Anthony Brandt, an expert editor, once said, “Other things may change us, but we start and end with the family.” Although all people are separate from each other in multiple ways, one thing is true: family shapes who you are and will become. Because of this, one can never truly “run away” from family, as they remain a part of whom one has become. The two passages The Rich Brother by Tobias Wolff and Sonny’s Blues by James Baldwin tell a story of two different brothers who have grown to be seemingly opposites of each other who end up together years later due to separate life choices. Both stories argue that disparity in childhood leads to conflict; however, siblings always eventually come back to one another, whether good or bad.…

There are several things that I do everyday to ensure the saftey of my classroom. I always maintain an accurate child supervision record and do my classroom counts every 30 minutes, or more often when necessary, to make sure that my head count matches the actual number of children in my classroom. The way the classroom is set up also helps ensure the safty of the children. Our stations are set up to reduse open floor space and the opportunity to run freely indoors. I have also protected any sharp table or cabinet corners to prevent an injury if a child falls. I keep my emergency routes posted and easily visible from any where in the room and my emergency contacts are always with my CSR's and easily accessible. At the end of each day I clean and sanitize my classroom and remove any broken toys that could cause an injury to a child.…
The term being an “officer” is bigger than the word itself and leads to more responsibility and trust that are given to you as that individual. Being ethical is what is defined as what is correct and proper behavior for the members of society. Being appointed to the position of a beginning officer position shows the trust in your ethics, but having the understanding that since you are new to the position you will have some bumps in the road of understanding what is expected. In the article read it shows the story that of an Assistant Chief. Most Assistant Chief positions are one that the person in question has many years of experience and understanding of what it is to lead. It is also a position that is of the most trusted because of the…
To reduce injury I always use the saying if you can predict something might happen then prevent it before. Children do not understand that there are dangers all around them, whether its the toys they play with, other kids and their belonging or the equipment that they play on. The important goals that I have are always to put the children's safety, happiness and their needs first. The best way for me to follow through on this is to make sure I keep close supervision on all children at all times. I do a complete check of the area where children are to be playing every day before children come into my room. This means that I check everything…
While reading the short story, I came across a paragraph that gave me a clue of what the yellow wallpaper meant to her. She talks about how she discovers new findings by the day and therefore it gives her comfort. I think when she finally discovered what it was about the yellow wallpaper that drew her in, she made it her mission to rip it down. As she rips down the wallpaper it could relate to the fact that she has to tear herself apart to be free. She then questions herself, “… if they all [came] out of that wall-paper as [she] did?” (237). It is strange that she finds such frustration and relief from it. This resembles her, herself because she too is trapped into that home, within that room, and not being able to write. She mentions that there are many faces in the wallpaper, which tells me that these faces are women who are in the same position as her. She also says that “there are so many of those creeping women, and they creep so fast” (237). This line describes her situation because she too is creeping on others as she is kept inside. I think the theme in this short story is about how women are not allowed to do certain things and how men are dominant. She wants to be a writer but her husband does not allow that due to her mental illness. Although the narrator has a mental illness, believes that inanimate objects come to life, and that she was trapped in the yellow wallpaper; She makes a point of how women live by men’s rules and how they are limited to the amount of things they are able to do.…
To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I believe that an open door policy is essential to have. I would do this by talking with the parents every day at drop off and pick up time. During the morning drop off time I would be able to find out how the previous afternoon went, if I wasn't there to see it myself, and how the child slept the previous night. I could also find out whether or not the child ate breakfast. During afternoon pick up time I would be able to tell the parent how the child's day went. I would also keep daily sheets for each child that would include bathroom breaks, what and how much the child ate throughout the day, as well as any concerns or questions I might have about the child. Another way I would keep the open door policy is by sending home a weekly newsletter informing the parents of what would be going on that week in the classroom. I would encourage parents to call the center or stop by to see how things are going for the child. I know that when parents are working they, often times, wonder about the child's day. By calling or stopping by they are able to peek in on the child and get updates are how the day is going. I would also encourage parents to attend any special event that the child is apart of, such as Christmas programs. The parents would, also, be more than welcome to have lunch with the child on his or her birthday if they are available to do so. I believe that, as a teacher, it is important to be the support system for the child while he or she is at school and while the parents are away at work. If the parents are working on something, such as using manners or potty training, I would be more than willing to help them by reinforcing that task while the child is at school. It is very important for both the child and the parents to have consistency in their daily routine. I believe that by…
