Unemployment is seen as a large problem for both developed and developing countries. It is typically understood as the condition of not having a paying job, even though a person is willing to work. There are many possible causes of unemployment, such as: lack of education or skills, jobs moving to other areas, incorporation of technology, or weak economies. This essay will explain why unemployment is a problem, and suggest some possible solutions.
Unemployment can be a major problem for individuals and society. The major problem caused by unemployment is lack of money, thus, people cannot buy daily necessities such as food, or other things they might want to be happy. Other possible problems are that unemployment reduces access to for education, or that health can be negatively affected. To provide for themselves or their families, some individuals may become criminals. In the worst case scenario, protests, riots, and even revolution can result from high levels of unemployment. In order to prevent these problems, solutions to unemployment must be found.
Government policies are usually seen as the best way to combat unemployment. Governments can create jobs by spending money on infrastructure programs, such as the Hoover Dam. For instance, by supporting education and vocational training, they can also provide the unemployed with new skills and opportunities. Lastly, an important strategy for reducing unemployment is lowering taxes and interest rates as a way to stimulate the economy.
Government policies are one approach to solving unemployment, but individuals can also help themselves.
If a person is out of work there are a variety of things they can do to increase their chances of finding a job. For example, individuals can volunteer which will allow them to learn new skills and can also get them noticed by a company. Job searching proactively is also important, this can be done by: relocating to a new area, being openminded about salary or duties, and spending forty hours a week job hunting. Finally, some people even make their own position, by identifying a need that companies have not met, or by starting their own business.
In conclusion, unemployment can have negative effects on individuals and society. It is possible to lower unemployment through government policies or individual actions. In the future, unemployment will become a greater problem as populations continue to grow and technology renders human workers obsolete.
