1. Understanding the Functions of Mentoring
The main functions of mentoring are: in my experience a the main functions of a menotring are to provide a supportive neutral person who can listen to the mentee's issuea and concerns and help them to through a process think about ways forwards in a constructive but motivated way, without imposing their own opinions.
The skills needed by a Mentor are:
• The willingness to help others overcome obstacles and barriers they may be facing
• I know that as a mentor you do not always have all the answers and sometime have to be willing to learn yourself.
• I know that having the ability to a good listener and be open minded and direct the mentee thought process to allow them to see things from another perspective is really important.

Understanding the benefits of mentoring
I understand that the benefits of mentoring are that young people can be guided in the right direction to make informed choices and decisions. This will help create a better future for them and for society as a whole and will avoid young people having regrets about making the wrong choices later in life.
In my organisation of a secondary school, pupils find that they follow the school rules and are less likely to misbehave or not attend lessons once they have had a series of mentoring sessions. They feel supported and know there is someone who is listening and understanding them and their needs.
The additional benefits to the school are that these pupils go on to perform well and take their exams providing a better outcome for the pupils and the school organisation as a
