Essay Who Is To Blame In Macbeth
In Act I of The Tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, King Duncan gets murdered. The characters in this play are trying to figure out who is to blame for his murder. There are a couple characters that could be blamed, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth, and the Witches. I feel that the witches are to blame. The Witches have been tinkering with Macbeth’s fate. They have been telling him that he shall be king. The third witch states “All hail, Macbeth, that shall be king hereafter!” (Line 50, page 327). Macbeth does not understand how he could become king. The Witches also speak to Lady Macbeth about Macbeth becoming king. They both know that they will have to execute the king and sons for Macbeth to become king. Lady Macbeth begins to think out a plan for the king’s execution. …show more content…
The sons are afraid that they will get the blame for the murder of their father so Malcom flees to England and Donalbain flees to Ireland. The fact that they flee makes it more suspicious that they are guilty. The only people that know about what the Witches said are Macbeth, Banquo and Lady Macbeth, therefore no one else suspects them to be guilty. None of these murders would have happened if the witches wouldn’t have started messing around the fate of others. Yes, Lady Macbeth is the one who talked Macbeth into this. Yes, Macbeth id the one who actually does the murdering. Yes, the brothers did flee which makes them look guilty, but none of these actions would have happened if the witches would have kept to themselves.
The witches are the ones to blame when it comes to how and why King Duncan got murdered. If the witches had not told Macbeth and Lady Macbeth of his possible kingsmanship then Macbeth and Lady Macbeth would not have gone crazy trying to make that rumor true.     They persauded Macbeth to kill people only because they wanted to be benefited. they were selfish and not worrying that they would soon turn Macbeth into a crazed lunatic The witches delighted in chaos and toil. They did not tell Macbeth what to do but they simply showed him what can happen through their prophecies and the apparitions they showed to Macbeth. Macbeth could've been a perfect target for them to bring about this chaos. Macbeth is a strong soldier, he has killed enemies in war, and perhaps the witches knew his true nature("by the prickling of my thumb, something wicked this way comes..."). The extent of their influenced is demonstrated through their predictions, they are temptations and a form of flattery which Macbeth eventually gave into. On one hand, Lady Macbeth has the far greater influence because she is Macbeth's wife and they share a passionate relationship together. Just like the witches she flatters him, but this time it is a direct flattery and a direct temptation towards him. As far as Macbeth being changed into a diffrent person, he himself is responsible for his own actions. The final decision lies within him and this was demonstrated when he carried out the murder of King Duncan. Lady Macbeth acts as the catalyst for Macbeth. Macbeth realised that he would have to commit regicide (stars, hide your fires; let light not see my deep and black desires), but he was unwilling to do so. Lady Macbeth changes his mind by attacking his manhood, despite the brave acts he has commited as a soldier. She also flatters him shamelessly. The murder of Duncan sets Macbeth on the trail of evil, as he didn't consult his wife when he killed Banquo and Macduff's family. He didn't even care when she commited suicide. The witches represent the Three Fates in Greek Mythology. they connotate destiny, fate, etc. They delight and thrive in chaos and toil.     To begin with, Macbeth is blameworthy, to a certain extent; one cannot dispute that fact. Macbeth evidently does desire countless things and by that, he is extraordinarily greedy. His greed is seen throughout the book, especially towards the end of the book, as when he says, “Hide your fires! / Let not light see my black and deep desires!” (I.IV.58) Macbeth is a king that rules with an iron fist of sorts; he greatly desires supremacy and authority, which, in due course, lead to his death.
