This Change Request would fund the labor, travel, and KISS user days for a factory technician from Rubb Building Systems to assist with the on-site construction of the Summit Mobile Garage as a quality assurance measure to facilitate timely and proper assembly of the structure. Specifically, upon arrival at Summit Station the Rubb technician will assess the status of the erection, which will already be in-progress, and work with the CPS Foreman in addressing questions or clarifications, identifying potential solutions to current or anticipated issues. Additional services will include expert interpretation of the Rubb construction documents, proposing of experienced-informed construction methods, assembly instructions for crew members as required, status documentation assistance, and hands-on execution of construction efforts integral with the CPS team. CPS has identified three main advantages for sending this technical expert to Summit: 1) ensuring an efficient construction process that will save time and labor, and will reduce risks associated with a prolonged construction phase, 2) assurance the structure has been constructed properly, resolving onsite issues and verifying there are no manufacturing defects, and 3) guaranteeing the warranty remains valid. Overall, the Rubb technician will provide on-site instruction, guidance, building-specific tools aiding the construction, and otherwise perform construction efforts along-side the CPS construction crew. The SIP base and tent for this structure were procured in Yr4 (CR 04-F011) and this work will be funded under a separate Yr5 subcontract to the manufacturer.…

In establishing the budget the first determination that was made was the amount of money necessary for each of the designated areas of spending per month. This was determined by dividing the amount of money currently allotted annually by the months in the year (12) to determine if the budgeted amount was on or off target. The amount of expenditure in each category was also considered. For example, the annual budget for personnel is 250,000. If this number is divided by 12 months the amount of money allotted to spend for personnel during each month of the fiscal year is 20,833. The amount of money expended during the month of March was 20,000. (P. Slimmer, personal communication, November 17, 2011).…

Typically businesses start up with a primary goal of earning revenue – to have the company profits exceed the cost of doing business. Small, local businesses are particularly susceptible to losing customers to large, corporate companies who often force these smaller companies out of business. Does this goal to make money and/or the susceptibility of being put out of business by a larger company excuse a small, local grocery store from filling its social responsibility? No, quite the contrary. It is becoming increasingly apparent that many consumers are basing their decisions not only on the items being provided by a company but the amount of “good” or perceived good a company is doing in their community.…

The primary goal of the formation of a business is to produce a profit for its shareholders and to create return for its investors. Although this is the primary goal, it is not the only one. Businesses often become too focused on the bottom line that they forget about the things that will really make them successful. An entity must not only focus on its shareholders, but all of its stakeholders: owners, investors, creditors, suppliers, customers, employees, the government, and even the community. Focusing on all of these groups is what differentiates a successful business from a mediocre one. One of the many important things for a business to focus on besides a profit is its social responsibility to the surrounding community.…
