Estimation of insoluble dietary fibre in breakfast cereal
1. The aim
The NDF method measure cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. It is used as an official method for determining dietary fibre in grains and cereals. The method is also applicable for types of feeds and forages. [1]The method consists in a solution of neutral detergent which melt from solid to liquid pectins and plant cell components, such as proteins and lipids.[2] The solution is applied to solubilize proteins. The addiction of the amylase enzyme, which occurs twice, is made in due to broke starch bonds and aid in the analysis. The main disadvantage of this method is that the soluble fibre cannot be measured [1].

2. Results
To calculate the percentage dietary fibre the following equation must be used:

w1- Weight of dried sample; w2- Weight of Glass wool + crucible; w0- Weight of the sample before analysis.

Below there are the weights for the all brand sample and the % dietary fibre:
All Bran

Through the results obtained, we have that w1 is higher than w2. Showing that there was analysis error, since it is not logical for the final weight to be lower than the Weight of Glass wool + crucible (g).
For reach a better analysis of results this report will address group 11 results for All Bran.
