Each and every learner is unique and different, they have their own though, feelings, emotions and inner values, they have their own way of dealing with others therefore teachers should help learners in the process of figuring out their self-worth, qualities which makes them different and unique and separates them from everyone else. Educators should show respect, courtesy and patience to the learners and their values just as they would like to be respected in return. When a learner feels respect and accepted the learning environment flourishes and becomes more positive because the learner will look forward to your lessons and interact more frequently. The learner will then see you as someone they can confide in and trust to guide them to be the best they can be, they will accept your support and your care.
Association
Association mainly involves communication and understanding. Educators need to get to know and understand their learners, as teaching and supporting are impossible if you are unaware of your learner’s weakness, strengths and character traits. Once this relationship is formed between the learner and the teacher it makes it easier and possible for the learner and the teacher to work together as a team finding solution to the issues confronting the learner. To successfully for full your duty as a counsellor you need to be able to communicate well and have the following you need to be a good listener, you should be interested and concerned for whoever is talking to, you should take notes of what is being said and expressed. You should have respecting skills, you should respect everyone regardless weather or not you agree with what they are saying, you must encouraging skills, and learners should be courage to say and express how they feel, you should have understanding skills which means that you should try to understand their situation even though you are not in it. The next skill is exploratory skill this allow you to explore the situation and see the situation from a different perspective, you need to be able to accompany the learner to choiceredness, the learner must know how to make choices, you must accompany the learner to responsible choices, you must accompany the learner to account for his / her decisions,
