The police officer rationalizes the behavior and does not consider that the drug dealer is a victim, therefore the acts in an unethical behavior. Police officers are sworn under oath to protect the public and never betray their badge or their title. There are many occasions that an officer’s ethics will be tested and the way they respond is what separates a corrupt police officer from a devoted police officer. This has cost the city of Philadelphia a total of more than $40 million in damages and agreements. In 2010, statics show that 1223 lawsuit cases represented police misconduct but only 584 were settled from the city. The most expensive settlement involved the shootings of Stephen Moore and Jamil Moses. In 2011, police officer Larry Shields was off duty when he responding to an intruder in a building where Moore was currently living. “Moore told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he walked down the stairs of his home to investigate his security alarm, which began ringing when the officer entered the building. As he reached the bottom steps, Shields opened fire without saying a word.” Moore did not have a weapon or a gun of any source. Moore was lucky enough to survive the shooting after going through many operations. On the other hand, the case of Jamil Moses was another incident where officer Shields was involved in. Officer Shield’s was chasing a car which collided with a police cruiser. Officer Shield’s “claimed they saw the two men reach under their seats, as if for a gun”. “The officer responded, shooting 62 rounds, killing Jamil Moses.” Larry Shield’s had a bad reputation and is known as America’s most dangerous cop.
