• She is sleeping on the job, while punched in.
• Company policy states she is able to do what she wants on her own time, but sleeping while punched in is prohibited
• Code of Ethics for Nurses Provisions 2, 3, 4, and 5 are being disputed as in violation.
• Ethical principles: autonomy, beneficence, and nonmaleficense as well as justice. Fairness
• If she was a patient, would she want her nurse sleeping while expecting that they were being cared for?
• Is she demonstrating respect for herself, her co-workers, and for the patients?
• Staff have complained that they don’t feel comfortable waking her to have needs of the patients met. Lack of respect for co-workers feelings.
• Do all nurses have the right to sleep when on duty? What is good for one is not good for all.

• Why is she acting this way? Overtired possible due to not managing work/life balance.
• Does she have depression or issues at home that are affecting her work performance? Having three children under the age of three can be fatiguing. She is not picking up extra shifts. Depression issues are unknown.
• How is this affecting her relationships with co-workers? Many co-workers expressed concerns about lack of concern for patients. Co-workers are afraid for their own licensing if incidents happen while working with her.
