Case Study Week #2
Case Study Week #2 describes a scenario of Mary, a young nurse, who has recently accepted employment with Dr. H., a fertility specialist. In this Case Study Mary experiences a number of ethical challenges. In obtaining this position, Mary relocated her life and career to be near her ailing mother. As an only child, without other family, Mary feels morally obligated to relocate to be near her mother so that she is better able to provide care for her. Navigating ethical decisions is part of working in today’s healthcare system. Ethical principles such as autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice provide guidance for how to make ethical decisions in the health care setting(Ajayi & Dibosa-Osadolor, 2011). Ethical principles are a way to declare what is the right or wrong way to handle a situation for healthcare workers and how the decision made by the healthcare worker impacts their patients. In the aforementioned case study, the actions taken by Mary and Dr. H. have direct impact on their patients. The actions taken by Dr. H. have a direct impact upon his staff.
