Ethical Practice In Counseling

The most important development about ethical practice that has occurred during this course is having boundaries with client. A counselor should not involve herself in a dual relationship that can cause her to loss her license for not following the code of ethics. As a counselor there will be a lot of challenges when it gets to confidential information. Counselor will not be able to disclose any information to a third party unless the client authorized and consents. Counselor can have a different believes when a client is infected with HIV and needs to aware of their partner or family members. There is some information that a counselor should not share and it can be difficult because the client has the right to share what they have disclosed to the counselor. Another important ethical practice that they counselor gain during this course is making sure before starting therapy the counselor needs to have proper documentation for the client to sign such as consents and clients rights. Making sure the counselor has clear expectations with the client so there will be no ethical issues. It is important to review all the information before starting therapy. Lastly, an important ethical practice that the counselor gains in the course is making sure of the professional competence and training. A counselor should get the proper skill and training to deliver the proper care to their client. If a counselor is not getting the proper information then she should talk to her supervisor, if things do not improve then the counselor should look for another agency where they can get the proper training they need. As a counselor you should not limited your research always ask for training so you can deliver the best care
